    This record describes the longline and trap data collected as part of the Tasmanian Seamounts Study undertaken by CSIRO Division of Fisheries in January 1997. Droplines and traps were deployed for between 2 and 7 hours at four seamounts to sample the motile fauna (fish, crustaceans, etc.) living within the benthic environment. 8 fish species were collected by these methods, the most numerous being squalid sharks (Etmopterus spp.) and eels (Diastobranchus capensis, Simenchelys parasiticus). The data from these fishing methods has been added to that from the dredge surveys in the faunal sections of the report of this survey.

    Data was collected on Southern Surveyor voyage SS 04/2003. The voyage took place in Northern Queensland coastal waters and the Gulf of Carpentaria during May - June 2003. The data was culminated in a Post cruise report. Access to this report is available via the links below.

  • This record describes gravity data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2021_V01, "Quantifying krill abundance for krill monitoring and management off the Australian Antarctic Territory", which departed Hobart on the 29th January 2021 and returned to Hobart on the 24th March 2021 (AEST). The gravity meter instrument is a MicroG Lacoste Air-Sea II. Data are stored in .ENV and .DAT data files at CSIRO. There are 98 files totalling 785 MB of raw data in this dataset. No data was acquired between 15:15 on 01/02/2021 and 14:59 on 06/02/2021 (UTC) and between 16:27 on 17/03/2021 and 04:19 on 20/03/2021 (UTC) due to rough weather conditions requiring the system to be turned off. No processing has been conducted on this data. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report.

    A MATLAB routine (readBRAN) was created to ease accessing the BRAN data for analysis and use. Particle tracking was done using the velocity data in BRAN to investigate the source and sinks of the Leeuwin Current waters.

    Daily rainfall data was collect by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM). This dataset contains data collected from 1950 to 2009. The stations that are represented in this data set are Carnarvon Airport, Exmouth Gulf, Gnaraloo, Learmonth Airport, Ningaloo, Quobba, Vlaming Head and Warroora. This data was downloaded from the Bureau of Meteorology's Climate Data Online website as separate csv files for each year, they were then collated into one MS Excel spreadsheet per station. A text file containing notes on the data was also downloaded at the same time. This data was obtained for the Ningaloo Project.

    This record is an entry for Biological Field Data Sheets from Southern Surveyor cruise SS 04/92. This cruise took place in waters off southern Tasmania during 3 November - 1 December 1992, under the leadership of Tony Koslow. Biological data collected on this cruise include demersal fish, micronekton and zooplankton samples to examine vertical distribution and diurnal movements. Dominant fish and zooplankton species to examine the diet through stomach content and stable isotope analyses. Estimates of zooplankton biomass, primary productivity and the concentration of chlorophyll-a at the trawl site and cross-slope transects. Flux of detritus estimates through the water column. Acoustic data of midslope fishes including target strength sampling in conjunction with net sampling.     The current National Marine Bioregionalisation project, coordinated by the Nation Oceans Office, consists of both pelagic (water column) and benthic (seafloor) components. The intended outcome of the National Marine Bioregionalisation is a set of bioregions for the Australian Marine Jurisdiction which will underpin a spatial framework to support planning and management of Australia's oceans. This report outlines the work on the pelagic regionalisation. The Pelagic Integration project aims to map and describe pelagic bioregions of the Australian Marine Jurisdiction (AMJ) with a particular focus on regions offshore of the continental shelf. Where possible it will complement the existing shelf pelagic bioregions of the Interim Marine and Coastal Regionalisation of Australia (IMCRA v3.3). In the process of the current regionalisation, we expect to produce datasets and analyses that may assist with a future update of the IMCRA pelagic bioregions and their descriptions. Hence, results of this project should not be extrapolated onto the continental shelf. CSIRO Marine Research has responsibility for the Pelagic Integration as part of its contribution to a Consortium (along with the National Oceans Office and Geosciences Australia (GA)) effort in the NMB integration projects.

    The Huon Estuary Study was undertaken by CSIRO Marine Research between 1996 and 1998. The Huon Estuary is in South Eastern Tasmania. This record references the data from the Physical Snapshot (PS) surveys. See the Documentation Link below in this record for an overview of all the surveys undertaken in this survey.The Physical Snapshot surveys were carried out on the day before a number of the Spatial (HES) surveys as follows: PS01 was undertaken directly before HES4 PS02 before HES5 PS03 before HES6 PS04 before HES9 and PS05 before HES10. These surveys were a combination of quickly deployed ctd's at a number of the Spatial Survey stations plus deployment of an underway data collecting system. For Physical Snapshots Surveys 3(PS03), 4(PSO4) & 5(PS05) only the underway system was deployed. From PS03 onwards data was collected by the underway system at nominally 0.5 and 1 m depths.

  • The CO2 measurements group is a research and data collection project carried out through the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) Ship of Opportunity Underway Network facility. The CSIRO CO2 system used for this research is mounted on the Research Vessel Southern Surveyor (IMOS platform code: VLHJ) of the Australian Marine National Facility managed by CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research (CMAR). The dataset includes quality controlled data collceted between Jan 2008 and October 2013. The Southern Surveyor voyages where data was collected and processed are listed below in this record. These data are available via the Australian Ocean Data Network AODN and IMOS ocean portal.
